This always bugged me when using a website, when you get your login credentials wrong you are told it’s "either" the password or the username that was incorrect. That’s really great, helpful for me to know where I messed up.

But it has a purpose. It’s a small but simple security measure to annoy bruteforcers. Now when they try to brute force account, they’re not told when they hit a successful username.

But if you have any sort of public member interface then this ultimately becomes useless. They can verify the username beforehand and know it’s correct. So I really don’t think this adds much of a purpose. If you have a public username list, this becomes pointless. Any security gained by it is lost.

I’m not sure where I stand on it. On something like my blog where my actual login username isn’t known, it would be useful. On a forum where you can easily verify a username, it’s less so.

(Greasemonkey) Gaia – Search Avatar Page v2

This is a Greasemonkey script written for GaiaOnline.com.

This script basically comes around from me completely getting lost inside my own dress up page on Gaia. What it does is basically give you a place to type an item name, and then it will highlight said item in your dress up page.

I get lost in my avatar page, and items can be staring me in the face without me seeing them. So this does help a cluttered person like me.

Due to the way Gaia loads your inventory, it will only search the loaded tabs. Meaning if you want to find an item in any tab, you’ll have to click each and let it load first. This is done mainly because I wanted to make this simple, and to avoid any calls to Gaia. This script only parses the source, it doesn’t make extra loads on the page.

Electricity

The power went out at our house due to the storms that are up and down the country for the moment. It totally sucks, but we dealt with it.

So we went on with our lives realizing how boring everything was without electricity. Seriously, it sucked. It was dark and very quiet, though the candles did make things look nice.

In the end an electrician fixed everything, but man did it suck before then.

So Iâ€™m going to try and conserve electricity, â€˜cos I never want to get in that sort of situation again if I can help it.

Relaunched Blog

I’ve ended up pulling down my old blog, and starting from scratch. This has come from a decision to change the focus slightly (or more accurately, give it a focus). Some of the previous posts were a bit random, and not something I really want to present to the world.

Will be going back through all of my old posts and adding any I want to, some may be back but some may be gone for good.
